Investigating Implicated Risk of Alzheimer?s Disease in those with Autism Spectrum Disorder Lead Investigator: Jean Yu Institution : Summer STEM Institute E-Mail : jyu9675@gmail.com Proposal ID : 1498 Proposal Description: The proposed study will use phenotypic and genotypic data from NACC to further postulate the link between Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Alzheimer?s Disease (AD). Some of the parameters that will be investigated include the age of the patient (EOAD or LOAD), the stage of dementia, MRI?s, neuropathology data, etc. This study will incorporate and compare the effectiveness Machine-Learning (ML) algorithms such as KNN and CNN?s in classifying and clustering the association between these two conditions. The purpose of this project is to investigate if those with ASD have a higher risk of developing AD later on in their life due to their genotype and phenotype. Previous studies have shown that there are molecular links between these two conditions, but more research is needed to specify which part of the ASD population is at risk for developing Alzheimer?s Disease. The advancement of research on this topic will be important in raising awareness on the implicated risk in the ASD population, and will allow them to implement early prevention methods to reduce their chance of developing Alzheimer?s Disease
